Domestic Biomass Boilers UK
Biomass boilers provide either space- or hot-water heating fuelled by plant-based material, which is grown, harvested and burnt. As the amount of CO2 emitted by burning the biomass is equal to the amount sequestered in the biomass during its lifetime, biomass heating is theoretically carbon neutral.
Almost all biomass heating solutions for the domestic market in the UK are wood-fuelled, which comes in the form of chips, pellets and logs. This can be sourced as locally as possible to ensure low carbon emissions during transport of the fuel.

Advantages of the technology include:
- This technology is an eligible measure under the Government’s Green Deal, a loan available for energy-efficient improvements to your home
- It is also supported by the Renewable Heat Incentive, enabling you to be paid for the heat you produce through a biomass boiler at a tariff of 9p/kWh for a boiler up to 45kW
- The price of wood fuel is cheaper than conventional heating options
- You could save around 7.5 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year when replacing a coal fired or electrical storage heating system
- Boilers can be installed without a great deal of refurbishment needed to the existing heating system
Biomass boilers are well known for their high efficiencies and the financial saving seen on energy bills can be great, especially if replacing an electric heating system.
