Biomass Boilers
Biomass boilers provide either space- or hot-water heating fuelled by plant or waste-based material, which is burnt to provide energy.
Large-scale use of biomass waste for industrial process heat applications are common and can be a good way of reducing industry’s reliance on fossil fuels, effectively using waste that a plant produces to produce energy in some cases.
Whether your business decides to burn plant or waste based biomass through a biomass boiler, either way energy requirements from the grid will be reduced, lowering these costs. For commercial use, boilers usually range from 200kW to 5MW.
Advantages of the technology include:
A study identified that almost half of the total energy used in domestic heating could be supplied by sustainable UK biomass by 2020 and The UK’s Renewable Energy Strategy (RES) assumes that 49% of the EU 2020 binding target for additional renewable energy will be provided from sustainable biomass. This support from government emphasises the importance of biomass in the future and confidence in the technology.
