I have just become the proud new owner of an Ecotek – Energy Wizard. The cost has lightened my pockets somewhat, but i have faith in eventually recuperating my money back. Fingers crossed it works.
The Energy Wizard is essentially a voltage optimisation product. (See background information section in article on ‘powerPerfector’). It optimises the voltage and current flows around your house to flow at the same time and direction. By doing this it should, in theory, make your appliances more efficient. It makes them more efficient because the correct voltage requirement for an appliance is now being supplied to it rather than being overly fed electrical energy.
After writing a previous review, it got me wondering whether there was a far cheaper alternative for domestic use. I was immediately drawn to this product. It was reasonably cheap and claims about efficiency savings and payback seemed promising.
Product reviews claimed that ‘up to 10% saving could be made’ but I wanted to make a quick test on it to see if it really worked. I also guess that the more efficient your appliances are, then the smaller the saving will be. For example, energy saving bulbs offer such a massive difference in the energy use that the savings just on using the energy wizard for lighting would not be very noticeable.
The test!
I stayed up one night to test the device as everyone would have gone to bed and no one could meddle with the experiment. For the first hour I used the energy wizard plugged in (as near to the fuse box as possible, so to cover the circuit of the whole house). The second hour was measured without the energy wizard. Kitchen light and living room lights were on as were the TV and the computer (so that I didn’t get too bored). The fridge and boiler were also included as these are constantly on anyway. All of this amalgamated to my ‘constants’. The first hour I recorded 0.966kWh, and the second hour 1.051kWh being used. Quick calculation, an 8.09% saving! The only anomaly to this is that I accidently boiled the kettle during the first hour (so not a constant), however there was still a substantial difference in the energy used, so i can presume that this percentage saving would have been higher if i had not switched on the kettle.
I can imagine that the savings would be higher than this. In this household we do have less efficient (although not terrible) appliances. So the energy wizard could improve here on optimising the energy usage for these appliances.
I can now tell you that the Energy Wizard will be plugged in permanently, and furthermore, i will be continuing the testing of the device in the near future.
I have looked around for many sites that sell the Ecotek Energy Wizard. The price ranges from £19.95 to £29.99. But don’t take these as a given, the postage and packaging added on to these prices give an average price of about £25-£26.
